MIX-RS: A Multi-Indexing System Based on HDFS for Remote Sensing Data Storage

A large volume of remote sensing (RS) data has been generated with the deployment satellite technologies. The facilitates research in ecological monitoring, land management and desertification, etc. characteristics RS (e.g., enormous volume, single-file size demanding requirement fault tolerance) make Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) an ideal choice for storage as it is efficient, scalable equipped a replication mechanism failure resilience. To use data, one most important techniques geospatial indexing. However, makes time-consuming to efficiently construct leverage. Considering that modern centres are HDFS-based big processing infrastructures, deploying multiple indices becomes natural optimise efficacy. Moreover, because reliability introduced by high-quality hardware infrequently modified property multi-indexing will not cause overhead. Therefore, we design framework called Multi-IndeXing-RS (MIX-RS) unifies on top HDFS enabled both tolerance indexing efficiency. Given provided HDFS, structurally stored inside faster Additionally, enhances proposed technique naturally sits form holistic without incurring severe overhead or sophisticated system implementation efforts. MIX-RS implemented evaluated using real Chinese Academy Sciences, demonstrating excellent performance.
